The series follows the day-to-day lives and misadventures of the charity’s representatives—cynical Charlie and cheerful, optimistic Pim—as they try to help the troubled people who call their hotline, though this task is usually more difficult than expected due to the often deep-seated nature of their client’s problems.
Adult Swim picked up the project after Hadel and Cusack proposed it to them, and filming on the pilot began in 2018. Hadel had previously tried to sell the network his and Chris O’Neill’s web series Hellbenders, but it was not picked up, and an independently produced pilot was dropped in the middle of production. Meanwhile, Cusack developed the Rick and Morty short Bushworld Adventures, which aired on the network as an April Fools joke in 2018, as well as the YOLO: Crystal Fantasy series, which will premiere on August 10, 2020.
