Recap of episode thirty nine
Thirty Nine begins in the past, with a young Mi-Jo assisting her mother in folding the laundry after Mi-Hyun had vanished. She remarks on how warm the music feels when classical music is playing. As Mi-Jo cracks a smile, the two connect over this. We then return to the present, where Seon-U is seen outside the club in a large argument with So-Won. She vehemently retorts that they’re no longer family, which profoundly saddens Seon-U, who is struggling to keep it together.
When So-Won returns to the club, he mulls over her remarks… and notices Mi-Jo and the other women on the other side of the road. Mi-Jo decides not to check on him as he walks away. She brightens up quickly, however, and goes to grab something to eat. Mi-Jo speaks to Seon-U in the morning, who avoids eye contact and appears apprehensive. He eventually admits that So-Won is his sister. Mi-Jo implies that she is in a difficult situation, but Seon-U dismisses her concerns, stating that she already has enough on her plate. Some of her issues are discussed with her doctor, and we find that Mi-Jo isn’t getting panic attacks as frequently as she used to. He gives Mi-Jo some medicine and tells her to focus on the happy times she had with Chan-Young instead of worrying about the future.
