Synopsis of the Pachinko Season 1

Pachinko’s narrative spans four generations of a Korean family that immigrated to Japan in the mid-twentieth century. It tells the story of Korean workers in Japan during WWII through the eyes of one particular lady, Sunja, who strives to raise her children, Noa and Mozasu, and provide them with a good existence in their new nation. It’s a fantastic, enlightening journey, but here’s a very brief synopsis:

Sunja, our main character, is the daughter of Yangjin and Hoonie. She spends her childhood in Yeongdo, a sleepy fishing village in Korea. Sunja, a teen, meets Koh Hansu, an affluent Japanese money manager while doing chores one day, and she becomes pregnant. Fearing tattle, Yangjin arranges for Sunja to marry a priest, Baek Isak, and move to Osaka, Japan, to live with his family members besides marriage.
